Luther Burden’s recent decommitment from Oklahoma puts a big fish back in play, and it seems there are two schools in play — Georgia and Missouri. Will the five-star wide receiver be another addition to the 2022 Georgia football recruiting class, or will he choose the Tigers?

Since Cortez Hankton joined the staff in 2018, he has brought in heavy-hitters like George Pickens, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, Justin Robinson and many others. Now he’s one of the guys on top of Burden’s recruitment.

For those unfamiliar, Burden is a 6-2 194-pound wideout from East St. Louis that rankings in the 247Sports Composite rankings as the No. 6 overall player, the No. 2 wide receiver and No. 1 Illinois player.

He currently holds 39 offers from a wide variety of schools. Burden initially committed to Oklahoma on Oct. 9, 2020, but recently reopened his commitment. While the Bulldogs and Tigers seem to be the final two, Burden also camped at Ole Miss and Alabama.

Georgia has a shot, but Missouri seems to be the leader in this race as it’s close to home. The Bulldogs did get a visit from the five-star earlier this month, so they are pushing hard for Burden.

Missouri makes sense for a few reasons because it’s close to home, and sometimes even if it’s not the best program, it’s still the best fit for the player. Even if choosing the Tigers over a powerhouse like Georgia or Oklahoma is risky, he would still make an excellent fit for Eliah Drinkwitz’s offense.

The Bulldogs will have to show the five-star that passing will be a priority for Georgia to really make a surge. Don’t count out the Dawgs for anything just yet, but don’t think because the battle is between Missouri that it’ll be a walk in the park.

Burden has the kind of talent that could see early playing time. He has long strides, and while he isn’t the most polished wideout, he is naturally talented and can still find ways to make plays. His tape shows he is a competitive player who will be an exciting player to watch once he has some development.

This recruitment could come down to signing day in December, and Georgia will fight for him until the pen hits the paper.  The battle will be tough, but keep Burden one to watch out for because recruiting is a crazy train, and anything could happen.
