Georgia Football: Game 12 vs. Georgia Tech

  • Venue: Bobby Dodd Stadium
  • City: Atlanta, GA
  • Overall Record: Georgia leads 68-39-5
  • Last meeting: Georgia won 52-7, 2019

The Clean Old Fashioned Hate rivalry returns after Georgia and Georgia Tech didn’t square off in 2020.

In the regular-season finale, the Bulldogs will travel to Atlanta and take on the rebuilding Yellow Jackets.

Geoff Collins is in his third year as Tech’s head coach, and the culture slowly seems to be changing. Going from a triple-option team to operating out of shotgun takes time and a lot of work.

Year 2 saw a lot of sloppiness from the Yellow Jackets with 89 penalties in 10 games. Forty-one of those came before the snap, which isn’t a good look and allowed opponents to take advantage of them.

But, with 12 returning starters, the Yellow Jackets will have some much-needed experience, so Year 3 could see more victorious moments than 2020 did. After going 3-7 last year, Collins’ team still has a lot to do before they’re contending.

I’ll give Collins credit for utilizing the transfer portal to his advantage as he grabbed some meat for both fronts.

Not to mention they finally have a returning quarterback in Jeff Sims, who started all 10 games last year. He found success throwing and running the ball. Sims ran for 492 yards and six scores, and through the air, he threw for 1,881 yards and 13 touchdowns, completing 54.9% of his passes.

Tech also as Jahmyr Gibbs returns to help out with the offensive production. The rising sophomore ran for 460 yards, averaging 5.2 yards a touch, collected 303 receiving yards, and scored a total of seven times.

Defensively, one of the guys Georgia will have to keep an eye on is Djimon Brooks, their senior defensive tackle. He will be a leader on the defense for Tech and was a force recording 30 tackles, a sack and fumble recovery in 2020.

Collins managed to grab Kevin Harris from Alabama in the transfer portal, so the Jackets have some grit out there.

Even though these two didn’t play last year, Georgia is far deeper than the Yellow Jackets in just about every position on the field.

Georgia needs to close out the regular season with a dominant win, and what better time to do that than against your in-state rival.

A balanced offensive effort and an aggressive defensive approach should give the Bulldogs their 12th win of the season to finish the regular season at a perfect 12-0.

Score Prediction: 42-14

Projected 2021 Record: 12-0
