Georgia football: Week 1 vs Clemson

  • Venue: Bank of America Stadium
  • City: Charlotte, N.C.
  • Overall Record: Georgia leads 42-18-4
  • Last meeting: Georgia won 45-21, 2014

Probably the most anticipated game of the season happens on Sept. 4 against Clemson in Charlotte. Who are we kidding? Fans have circled this matchup for years. The last time these two faced off was in 2014 when Georgia defeated Clemson 45-21 in the season opener.

Georgia hasn’t lost an opener since that Clemson game, and the Tigers hadn’t lost an opener since that beatdown in Athens, which was in 2013 when Clemson won 38-35.

Seven years later, a top-five matchup and bragging rights are on the line.

The stakes for this game continue are at an all-time high. I mean a showdown of this magnitude during the first week of the football season — this is the definition of college football and why we love it so much. Even ESPN College GameDay thinks it’s a big deal as they’ll be at the game in Charlotte as well.

This game will be one of the toughest on Georgia’s schedule, if not the toughest.

Clemson’s defensive front is one of the best in the country and will be hungry for redemption after falling short of a national title game last year. Not to mention the Tigers’ offense is high-powered and just as talented as Georgia’s.

It’ll be JT Daniels vs. DJ Uiagalelei, as these are two of the best quarterbacks in the country. Daniels has more experience than Uiagalelei, which could benefit the Dawgs, but it won’t be an easy road.

The Bulldogs have suffered more injuries during this offseason than anyone likes to talk about, but that doesn’t mean Georgia is short-handed.

It’s unclear who will be available and who won’t be for the game on Georgia’s end of things, but at the same time, the running back stable is fully loaded, and Daniels has plenty of weapons. Clemson does as well, but it’s time for Georgia to win a game when it matters.

So, I have a feeling Georgia will find a way to seal the deal and win a close one in Charlotte, ending the opening game streak for the Tigers.

Score Prediction: Georgia 31, Clemson 28

Projected 2021 Record: 1-0
