Georgia Football: Week 2 vs UAB

  • Venue: Sanford Stadium
  • City: Athens, GA
  • Overall Record: Georgia leads 2-0
  • Last meeting:  Georgia won 34-0, 2006

After a juggernaut of a Week 1 game, Georgia will have its home opener against UAB, marking the third time these two have played each other.

Even though UAB isn’t the powerhouse that Clemson is, this team is no pushover and, like the Tigers, has an incredibly talented defensive front. The Blazers defense gave up on average 137.9 rushing yards a game, around four yards a play, and just five rushing touchdowns all season.

Opponents would convert just 29.77% of third downs last season and only averaged 21 points. The Blazer’s defense recorded 60 tackles for loss and 21 sacks last season as well.

This defense will give Georgia’s offense fits as long as they physically can, and will be no pushover until they get tired. UAB’s offense averaged about 200 yards on the ground and through the air, so they’re a pretty balanced team.

Georgia will eventually overpower the Blazers, but they better not sleep on them because they’ll be ready to give it all they got. The Bulldogs need to push the throttle down and keep it pressed down until they beg for mercy. While that seems a bit harsh, things like that happen when you’re looking to prove a point and have a special season.

This game will also be an excellent time for younger players to gain experience and prove they can make plays in game-like situations. While tough matchups make for better cases in the College Football Playoff committees’ eyes, these ‘cupcake’ games are great for when guys get banged up and build some depth down the road.

Georgia will likely have very few issues against the Blazer teams because, well, they’re far deeper and talented, but once again, the Bulldogs cannot go into this game asleep. They must be aggressive regardless of who they’re playing.

Score Prediction: 55-0

Projected 2021 Record: 2-0
