Georgia Football: Week 3 vs South Carolina

  • Venue: Sanford Stadium
  • City: Athens, GA
  • Overall Record: Georgia leads 51-19-2
  • Last meeting:  Georgia won 45-16

Georgia opens up their SEC schedule at home against South Carolina, who is under new management in head coach Shane Beamer after the Gamecocks fired Will Muschamp last year.

After losing his job, Muschamp joined the Bulldogs staff and has been an outstanding hire thus far, so we can forgive the terrible things he said in the past. Anyway, that’s a rabbit hole we will avoid.

Beamer is a former staffer as he was the special teams coordinator and tight ends coach during as he was part of Kirby Smart’s first entire staff. He left after the 2017 season for Oklahoma and then took the South Carolina job.

The Gamecocks return 14 starters like the Bulldogs do, including their talented running back Kevin Harris, who ran for 1,200 yards, and their second-leading receiver in tight end Nick Muse, who had 30 catches for 425 yards.

Defensively, South Carolina’s sack leader Kingsley Enagbare returns after tallying six last year. Cam Smith, a defensive back, recorded three tackles against the Bulldogs last year’s returns as well.

The Bulldogs should utilize both the running and passing game against the Gamecocks to keep them on their toes at all times. Georgia’s defensive front must be a force against the Gamecocks for the Bulldogs to find success to slow down Harris. The Bulldogs also must find a way to get South Carolina off the field because allowing 3-of-3 fourth-down conversions is still unacceptable.

During last season’s game, Georgia did a great job on third down, converting 8-of-10 times, which must happen again. This game will also be a chance for the stable of running backs to do some serious damage. While I don’t think the Gamecocks will give up 332 rushing yards, the Bulldogs will do some damage.

Beamer is a heck of a coach, and I think a lot of people will be surprised at their end-of-year record. However, in Week 3 against a top-5 Georgia team, the Bulldogs win with ease.

Score Prediction: 45-17

Projected 2021 Record: 3-0
