Georgia Football: Week 4 at Vanderbilt

  • Venue: Vanderbilt Stadium
  • City: Nashville, Tenn.
  • Overall Record: Georgia leads 58-20-2
  • Last meeting:  Georgia won 30-6, 2019

Georgia travels to Nashville for their first SEC road test of the season. After the game between these two got canceled last year, making it the only game the Bulldogs didn’t get to play.

Vanderbilt made some changes in the offseason as they let Derrick Mason go and hired Notre Dame’s former defensive coordinator in Clark Lea. The Bulldogs will take on another SEC East team working on rebuilding, but that doesn’t mean they should go into it casually. Vandy went 0-9 last year, so Lea can only go up from that because even though there is a lot of work to do, Mason did a great job recruiting, so there is some talent there.

According to Athlon Sports, the Commodores return a hefty 17 starters from last season, including quarterback Ken Seals who completed 64.6% of his passes. He threw for 1,928 yards, 12 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Vanderbilt returns a wideout room full of playmakers like Cam Johnson, Amir Abdur-Rahman and Ben Bresnahan.

While Seal will have weapons, the Commodores don’t have a solid offensive line, so that will be something Georgia’s defense will need to exploit. Vanderbilt picked up Re’Mahn Davis from Temple as he ran for 936 yards in 2019 for the Owls.

The last time these two teams played, Georgia won 30-6 in Nashville, where Georgia fans flooded Vandy’s stadium. With this year’s game in the Music City, I fully expect that to happen again along with a dominant performance.

By this time, Georgia may have some of those injured players return, which gives them more depth and more weapons to use.

After racking up 323 yards on the ground against Vandy in 2019 and 156 yards through the air, I fully expect Georgia to have a much more balanced offensive effort in 2021. Daniels will exploit the Commodore secondary, and the running backs should see wide open holes to run downfield, so the offense performance in this game should be impressive.

Score Prediction: 42-7

Projected 2021 Record: 4-0
