Georgia Football: Week 5 vs. Arkansas

  • Venue: Sanford Stadium
  • City: Athens, GA
  • Overall Record:  Georgia leads 11-4
  • Last meeting:  Georgia won 37-10

The Bulldogs return to Athens for Game 5 of the 2021 season for an SEC East/West showdown against Arkansas.

Sam Pittman’s squad has this game circled after the Razorbacks fell to Georgia in last year’s season opener 37-10. Georgia’s former offensive line coach shocked some folks with his first-year Razorback team, and they’ll be even better in 2021.

Arkansas returns 19 starters, which should help them win more than the three games they did last year.

Of the 19 returning, their starting quarterback isn’t one of them. Feleipe Franks graduated, so the Hogs will likely look to KJ Jefferson, a dual-threat who backed up Franks. He threw for just 274 yards last year and will have the most experience at the position, which isn’t a lot.

Arkansas will have weapons to help improve Jefferson’s confidence in Treylon Burks. The Hogs return running back Trelon Smith, too, after finishing the season with 710 yards.

However, the position that will give Georgia the most fits in the offensive line as the entire unit is back this season.

Pittman knows how to put an offensive line together, so even though they gave up 34 sacks last season, they’ll likely improve that number this year.

Defensively, Arkansas’ biggest strength will be their secondary. Jalen Catalon, a heavy-hitting safety, heads the group as five starters return. This unit recorded 13 interceptions last year, so Daniels will have to be careful.

The offense needs to be balanced for Georgia to win this game. Pittman’s squad held the Dawgs to just 121 rushing yards last year but gave up 266 through the air. Georgia needs to show it can succeed running and throwing the ball because the Razorback’s secondary will be much better than in 2020.  If the offense can punch Arkansas in the mouth early, it will give the defense the ability a do its job.

Georgia’s defense will be a significant factor in this game. While they held the Hogs to just 77 yards on the ground, they coughed up 203 passing yards. If they can cause turnovers and find a way into Arkansas’ backfield, the Bulldogs will win the game.

There cannot be any let-up against Arkansas because they’re a team that if you come into the game complacent, they’ll run out of Athens with a victory. While this game may not seem like a trap game, it could be, so Georgia must maintain its focus to avoid getting their first loss of the season.

Score Prediction: 21-7

Projected 2021 Record: 5-0
