Georgia Football: Game-By-Game Predictions for 2021 season
Georgia Football: Week 7 vs. Kentucky
- Venue: Sanford Stadium
- City: Athens, GA
- Overall Record: Georgia leads 60-12-2
- Last meeting: Georgia won 14-3
Georgia returns to Sanford Stadium in week seven for an SEC East showdown with the Kentucky Wildcats.
The Bulldogs currently have an 11-game winning streak over the Wildcats, and I expect them to make it 12 straight in 2021.
Even though the Wildcats return 11 starters, they’ll have some questions surrounding their offensive again. Their defense will have a solid foundation, but it’ll need some work.
Head coach Mark Stoops hired Liam Coen from the L.A. Rams to run the offense after struggling to score last season. Terry Wilson transferred out, so Kentucky will have to find a new starting quarterback to lead the way.
The Wildcats will likely look to either Will Levis or Joey Gatewood to handle those duties.
Kentucky does have some experience at the running back spot, in Chris Rodriguez and Kavosiey Smoke. Rodriguez ran for 785 yards last year and 11 touchdowns while averaging 6.6 yards a touch. He will likely be the starter and will need to be a significant playmaker.
Smoke has two years of experience, but look for him to contribute more in the passing game.
Kentucky showed they could hang in 2020 by holding Georgia to 14 points. The Bulldogs won the defensive battle, but it was an ugly win that exposed offensive production issues for the Dawgs.
While Georgia’s offense finished with 346 total yards, they struggled to get the ball into the endzone. They scored enough to win, but it wasn’t a win that made fans very comfortable.
If there is a chance to score this season, the Dawgs need to take advantage of it regardless if it’s through the air or on the ground.
The Bulldog’s defense must improve from last year too. Georgia let Kentucky’s offense stay on the field far too long as they went 7-of-16 third-downs and 2-of-3 fourth-down conversions.
Not to mention the six penalties Georgia committed, allowing their offense to be on the field for 35 total minutes. Georgia won because Kentucky couldn’t make anything happen on offense and didn’t have enough depth on defense.
This game needs to be a statement for Georgia in 2021. Instead of getting out of there with an ugly win heading into the off-week, demolish them.
Georgia shouldn’t overlook Kentucky by any means, but at the same time, the Bulldogs have more depth and talent than the Wildcats do, so this shouldn’t be a game long.
Score Prediction: 35-7
Projected 2021 Record: 7-0
