Georgia Football: Week 8 vs. Florida

  • Venue: TIAA Bank Field
  • City: Jacksonville, Fla.
  • Overall Record: Georgia leads 53-44-2
  • Last meeting:  Florida won 44-28

Once again, the Georgia-Florida battle will likely be a deciding factor in who wins the SEC East title and a trip to Atlanta.

However, after Florida embarrassed Georgia in Jacksonville last year, 44-28, I suspect the Bulldogs have this game circled on the calendar to prove a point.

After owning Florida for three years, Dan Mullen and his team got the best of a Georgia team that struggled to produce much offense.

Florida returns nine starters for 2021 but loses some significant names after last year’s 8-4 season.

The Gators lost playmakers in Kyle Trask, Kadarius Toney and Kyle Pitts, who covered up a defense that could give up as many explosive plays as the Kyle duo made. This duo is what gave the Gators the success they had.

Replacing Trask will be Emory Jones, who’ll finally get his time to lead the Gators after sitting on the bench the last three years. Dameon Pierce returns as the Gators starting running back after leading them with 503 yards.

Defensively, Florida has some experience, but their production last year wasn’t that impressive. They gave up 428 yards of offense a game and let opponents score 30 points on average.

While the Gator’s offense was the star, their defense almost cost them a few games.

Zachary Carter and former Bulldog Brenton Cox will be two players Florida look to this year to be leaders on defense. Carter had five sacks last season and nine tackles for loss while Cox tallied four sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss. These two will be strong playmakers for the Gators.

Georgia will have to find a way to avoid giving up 474 yards through the air in Jacksonville. While the Dawgs held their running game to just 37 yards, it didn’t matter because they completely dominated the air game.

Offensively, the Bulldogs will have to be able to spread out the Florida defense so they can run the ball but pass it when they need to. A balanced offense is a key in this game.

The biggest thing Georgia needs to accomplish is scoring in the red zone. Hopefully, by this game, Georgia will have its own stud of a tight-end ready to play and make some noise.

This game will be one of the biggest and most competitive on the schedule because it’ll determine who will head to Atlanta.

If Georgia wants to make this season special, they must win this game because it’ll either prove they’ve got what it takes to go all the way or crack under pressure.

Score Prediction: 28-24

Projected 2021 Record: 8-0
