Georgia football has suffered quite a few injuries this offseason and in Fall camp.
Saturday marks the start of the season, so we wanted to look at who won’t be dressing out for the game against Clemson.
Some of these guys could be back, depending on how they heal. However, some will not be back for a couple of weeks, depending on the severity of their injury.
Looking on the bright side, Georgia is an extremely talented team with a lot of guys who have stepped up in Fall camp.
Even though these injuries sting a bit, the Bulldogs still have an excellent chance to defeat the Tigers.
Injury Report
WR George Pickens
OL Owen Condon
TE Darnell Washington
DB Tykee Smith
ILB Quay Walker
CB Jalen Kimber
C Warren Ericson
WR Dominick Blaylock
WR Kearis Jackson
WR Jermaine Burton
TE John Fitzpatrick
This list doesn’t include Arik Gilbert, who is still not with the team but isn’t injured. Remember to send him and his family good vibes because he will hopefully be back on the team and deserve our support.
Now don’t freak out at this long list of players, even though it can be kind of daunting. So let’s break it down on who is out and who could play this week.
Georgia Football players OUT for Week 1
The guys who are still for sure out are George Pickens, who tore his ACL. He will be one of the guys Georgia’s sports medicine department will make sure is 100% before releasing because he is an important component of this team.
Joining Pickens will be Washington and Smith, who both suffered foot injuries in Fall camp. It’s extremely doubtful that either of them will play against Clemson on Saturday because foot injuries are weird and can take longer to heal. We expect these two to miss a couple of games, but only time will tell.
Blaylock is the other player that will be out for Week 1. Like Pickens, he tore the same ACL for a second time. Things like that take a long time to rehab from, and with him missing a whole year, it’s going to take time for him to get back to competitive form.
Georgia Football players QUESTIONABLE for Week 1
Guys like Fitzpatrick, Ericson and Kimber could all see playing time this week. Georgia desperately needs some depth at the tight end position, so if Fitzpatrick can go, then it’ll be a sigh of relief. He is a great blocker, and Georgia needs that against Clemson.
Kimber could also see some action this week against the Tigers, but I don’t think he will be starting. He has dealt with some kind of nagging injury but has participated a little bit in the scrimmages. Time will tell with this one as Georgia needs the depth in the secondary.
Ericson hurt his hand early on in camp, but Kirby said in his Monday press conference he has practiced the last two weeks, so it seems like he will be another one that’ll be full go on Saturday.
The other guys on the list like Jackson, Condon, Walker and Burton could also see some playing time against Clemson. Jackson should be good to go, but it wouldn’t be surprising if Georgia slowly implemented him to make sure he’s 100%.
Georgia may have a long list of guys on the injured list, but it seems like a good chunk of them could be back in time for the game on Saturday, which will be extremely beneficial against Clemson.
