When Georgia football fans think of UAB, two things probably come to mind: (1) they shuttered their football program at the conclusion of the 2014 season; and (2) because of that, Jake Ganus transferred to Georgia and made an immediate impact in his lone season.
Ganus was not only voted a team captain for the 2015 season, he went on to lead Georgia in tackles and was awarded the Vince Dooley Most Valuable Player Award at season’s end.
On the football field, Georgia and UAB don’t have much history. The teams have played twice, in 2003 and 2006, with Georgia walking away victorious on both occasions.
UAB enters Saturday’s opener 1-0 after an opening week shutout of Jacksonville State. The Blazers are the defending Conference USA champions following a 2020 season that saw them go 6-3 and defeat Marshall in the C-USA title game.

Georgia Bulldogs vs. UAB Blazers Prediction for Week 2:
Georgia enters Saturdays contest riding high from an emotional win against Clemson in Charlotte.
Saturday night’s game was an old-school, defensive slugfest. The hot tubs and cold tubs will get plenty of us this week as the Dawgs try to remedy any lingering aches and pains from the physical affair.
While Georgia’s defense planted their flag in the ground and put everyone on notice that they are one of the nation’s best, the offense left something to be desired.
Georgia struggled to get vertical and hit chunk plays against Brent Venables salty Clemson defense, failing to score an offensive touchdown while only accumulating 256 yards of total offense.
Look for Georgia’s receivers to find some more space in UAB’s secondary than they did last week against the Tigers. JT Daniels and the Dawgs’ O will find more rhythm this week and will find the endzone enough where Carson Beck will get some second half snaps.
Georgia’s D will pick up where they left off Saturday night and give UAB quarterback Tyler Johnston, III fits all afternoon.
Georgia looked like they were on a mission Saturday night. Objective – national title. Saturday night marks the next rally point. We’ll take Georgia -25, and bank on Georgia’s offense finding its footing, so we’ll bet the over too.
