Brock Bowers, a true freshman tight end for Georgia Football, showed off his wheels as he capped the impressive first quarter of offense by outrunning the entire UAB defense.
He caught a perfectly thrown pass from Stetson Bennett and took off for the endzone. Bowers ran 88 yards for the score and burned every one of the UAB defenders, showing just how quick he actually is.
That speed should excite all of the Georgia football fan base. Bowers is an elite athlete, and through two games, he is already showing his worth.
His touchdown marked the longest pass play from scrimmage since 2013 for the Dawgs.
Georgia fans wanted more explosive plays, and well, the offense is giving the world a taste of how explosive this offense can be. Granted, it is against UAB, but this defense isn’t a pushover. They are full of veteran players who can make big plays, but Bowers and company have proven otherwise so far.
Despite losing Darnell Washington to injury, Bowers hasn’t let being a true freshman affect him at all. He is playing the game and seeing it on a level we want out of the tight ends.
Robert Griffin III said on the call Bowers has been clocked at 22 miles per hour, and after the way he burned UAB’s defense, he showed every bit of it. Most of the time, secondaries can run down a tight end because they normally aren’t the fastest on the field, but Bowers is showing how big of a weapon he is.
This game is only his second in the red and black, yet he acts like he has been there for three years. Georgia has been waiting on a tight end like this, and the Bulldogs finally have one that can make the plays and outrun the opponent’s defenses.
So far through the first quarter, the Dawgs have already proven why they are the No. 2 team in the country with youngsters who are still learning.
