Georgia football made the right choice in starting Stetson Bennett

Georgia football went with Stetson Bennett to start the UAB game, and after two successful drives for touchdowns, it’s evident the Dawgs made the right call.

Bennett is currently perfect and hasn’t had an incomplete pass. He also has three touchdown passes. The first touchdown was to Jermaine Burton for 73 yards, and the second was a 24-yard pass to Kenny McIntosh, who had a one-handed catch.

It seems like while the idea was Carson Beck would get the go-ahead, and most publications said he would get the start, the coaching staff chose the experience Bennett has.

The Dawgs made the right choice because while they’ve made UAB look weak on the first two drives, that defensive front is full of veteran players that averaged less than four yards a play last year.

Experience against a defense like that is crucial because Bennett can see what they’re trying to do and alter as he needs to. The Dawgs rush attack has 15 yards so far, but with the way Bennett is slinging it, the run game will come soon enough.

You force a defense like UAB to cover the wideouts, which opens up the running game, which was the game plan all along.

Bennett’s experience is paying off so far this game, and at this pace, it wouldn’t surprise me if we saw Beck come in and get a series or two. He needs some in-game experience to gain some confidence, and it’s coming.

While most Georgia fans don’t agree with the decision to start Bennett, he shows the Dawg nation he is worth the start and can score points.

The Dawgs need to win this game in a big way, and no one thought that would happen when JT Daniels went down, but fear not, the Mailman is proving he can step up when his name gets called.

After the first two drives, Beck came into the game, and the Dawgs ran it all three downs to force a three and out. While some will say well they didn’t let him throw the ball so how can you compare, he got in the game and I’m sure they’ll switch them in and out as it progresses.

As the game progresses, it’ll be interesting to see if the staff will stick with Bennett or give Beck some reps. I  think it’ll be the latter because this is the kind of game you can do that with. Even though he didn’t start, he should get his time.

He already got one series, will it continue or will the Dawgs stick with Bennett?
