3: New Georgia football defenders emerge at top of statistic categories

I couldn’t give takeaways without mentioning Georgia’s defense and how they did an excellent job once again.

Even though the havoc stats weren’t as high as the first two weeks, the defense did enough to force a fumble and intercept the ball. Georgia also tallied three sacks, five tackles for loss and five pass breakups.

However, the group shined against South Carolina in quarterback hurries as the Dawgs tallied 26 of them. Five or more should have been sacks, but that didn’t happen with the Gamecocks holding Georgia players and such.

To have 26 quarterback hurries means the defense is doing something right. They are making the quarterback uncomfortable and forcing decisions faster than they want to make them.

The two guys that seemed to be in on every play were Nolan Smith and Channing Tindall.

Smith led the team with eight tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He forced the fumble on a strip-sack and had two quarterback hurries of his own.

Tindall was one tackle behind him at seven and also had a quarterback hurry.

It’s great to see these two guys on the top of the statistic page because they have worked so hard to get there. Not to mention it gives opponents two more names to circle in terms of who can make plays on Georgia’s defense.

However, they need to circle all 11 players because they all make plays and create havoc.

Adam Anderson is also a guy that deserves some praise for his performance on Saturday. He led the team with five quarterback hurries. Anderson recorded four tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack and even recorded a pass breakup.

He is another guy who has been waiting for his moment, and if Anderson continues on this track, he will be a force on the field. I mean, he already is, but opponents will fear him.

Nakobe Dean, Jordan Davis, and the other guys are still doing their thing, but something about these three guys deserved the praise after Saturday.

Georgia has a defensive unit that can hurt teams, make them run away from the pressure and just flat out give up on the football field. If that doesn’t scream the best defense in the country, I don’t know what does.

This group is dangerous, and as long as they clean up some things they got complacent with against the Gamecocks, no one in the SEC will be able to do much against them.

Next. Georgia Football earns dominant win but has poor finish. dark

Georgia football leaves the opening week of SEC play with some work to do, but right on track. This season is about taking it game-by-game, not looking ahead, and finding a way to win each week regardless of the opponent.

Every week won’t be the same, but if the Dawgs continue to score 30+ points a week and hold opponents to 14 and under, it’s going to be a good season.
