Georgia Football: Dawgs in the NFL at the quarter mark
By James Kehm
If you ask Georgia fans, what surprised them about the NFL draft, most will say Azeez falling out of the first round. What comes as no surprise to Dawgs fans is how stellar he has played through the first quarter of his rookie campaign.
It is no secret that the Giants love former Dawgs. Currently they have 5 on the roster and Azeez may very well end up being the best of the bunch.
Apparently the reason for Ojulari’s slide to 50th overall was due to his torn ACL his senior year in high school, which caused him to miss most of his freshmen year at UGA. It seems he is going to make most teams regret passing on him.
All he has done in the first quarter of the season is have 11 tackles, 3 sacks and 1 forced fumble while primarily playing on 3rd downs as a pass rush specialist. Those three sacks also set a Giants’ franchise record as he is the only player to record them in his first three games for the team.
While it is unrealistic to expect him to keep this pace, Azeez has already laid the foundation for a solid rookie season which could lead to some postseason honors.
