Georgia football redshirt freshman Ladd McConkey earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after his incredible performance that helped the Dawgs beat Auburn on Saturday.

This honor marks the eighth honor of the year for Georgia as McConkey joins Devonte Wyatt, Brock Bowers, Nolan Smith, Adonai Mitchell, Stetson Bennett, Chris Smith and Jordan Davis.

Since the season started, Georgia has had at least one person named to an SEC weekly honor, with McConkey keeping the streak alive.

Georgia is having quite the season, but to have someone named as the best of the conference each week, and for it to be eight different guys, should tell you how talented this team is.

McConkey earned this week’s Freshman of the Week honor after recording five catches for 135 yards and one touchdown.

However, four of the five catches he made were crucial for the Dawgs. He scored on a 60-yarder which put one of the final nails into the Tigers’ coffin, but the other three catches were to keep drives going, which also helped.

McConkey is the second leading receiver with 16 catches for 280 yards and two touchdowns on the season.

His other touchdown came against Vanderbilt when the youngster finished with four catches for 62 yards and had a carry for 24 yards and a touchdown.

McConkey is proving that stars don’t matter when you have grit and heart. With so many wideouts hurt, he had to step up, and he did. While the hurt Dawgs are still assets for the team, McConkey is proof that a next-man-up mentality can sometimes benefit a team in the long run.

Georgia took a chance on this guy, and it’s paying off because look at him now. He is just getting started for the Dawgs, and with three years of eligibility left, there is no telling how big of a playmaker he will turn into by graduation time.

Georgia is making every team that passed on McConkey look silly. Once given an opportunity, he has done nothing but prove why star rankings don’t matter and how even the undersized guys can be playamkers.
