Georgia Football: 3 Dawgs primed for big impact against Kentucky
Darnell Washington
A few weeks ago, I wrote about how we might see Darnell back for the Vanderbilt game. Unfortunately, Washington did not appear in that game, but he did make his return against Arkansas, making his biggest impact by blocking for the Georgia running backs.
True freshman Brock Bowers, however, has stepped up in a big way in Washington’s absence, netting 315 receiving yards and five total touchdowns in six games this season.
Last week, “Big 0” had his first catch of the season that went for 25 yards. He also nearly made a nice one handed catch, and although he wasn’t able to reel it in, the Auburn defense was still called for pass interference.
Fellow Dawn of the Dawg writer Rick Beach also wrote about how important getting Washington involved in the passing game against Kentucky will be. Whenever he is on the field, he is instantly a mismatch for virtually every defender thanks to his 6’7 frame and ability to create big plays.
Looking at Kentucky’s roster, their biggest defensive back is 6’2, which does not bode well for them when trying to cover Washington. Todd Monken will have fun using his big man in different formations in the passing game and causing havoc for Kentucky defensive coordinator Brad White and his defense.
Regardless of who starts at quarterback on Saturday for the Dawgs, Darnell Washington needs as many catches as possible for the offense to really take it to the Wildcats.
