It’s Homecoming weekend in Athens and with SEC Nation and College GameDay both setting up shop on campus, the energy in the Classic City all morning was palpable.

There were raucous gatherings of fans at the Special Collections Library for the SEC Network’s flagship pregame show, and Myers Quad was packed to the gills with folks donning the red and black.

For Georgia football fans, Homecoming wasn’t the only thing to celebrate. For the first time in a long time, their beloved Dawgs are the No. 1 team in alllllll the land.

What started as a season of optimism in Charlotte has materialized into full-blown euphoria, as the Georgia football team propelled by a historically dominant defense and an offense capable of beating you on the ground or through the air has run roughshod through the first half their schedule.

They look to continue that momentum against an upstart undefeated from Lexington, that’s right, Lexington! Kentucky Basketball held their season-opening celebration at Rupp Arena last night and people were more focused on football than fast breaks because Mark Stoops Kentucky Wildcats are undefeated and the No. 11 team in the country.

College GameDay celebrity guest picker Jeff Foxworthy was decked out in Georgia gear and put on a show. It was clear he is a college football fan and all his picks included a some analysis and an on-brand one-liner that had the panel in stitches the entire segment.

When it came time for Coach Corso to make his signature pick, he called Uga over and explained the reasons for his pick in the Kentucky-Georgia game to the greatest mascot in all of college sports.

The Sunshine Scooter explained that Georgia was his pick to win the SEC Championship and Kentucky was his pick to win the SEC Championship in basketball.

Then, with a sly smile on his face, Corso said, “This ain’t basketball.”

To the delight of the home crowd, he then slid on the Hairy Dawg headgear and Myers Quad erupted as Corso did his patented post-pick wave.
