Georgia football: Special teams gets in on the defensive dominance
Georgia football finally had enough of Kentucky’s creative play calling as the defense held the Wildcats out of the endzone and blocked the field goal to avoid giving up more points.
Finally, the Dawgs exerted their dominance against the Wildcats and let them know who they really are. While it’s been a strong performance from Georgia’s defense, Kentucky shouldn’t be able to get down the field this quickly.
Kentucky started off the drive with two big passes to DeMarcus Harris to get deep into Georgia’s territory. Will Levis would connect with Justin Rigg for 12 years to get to the Dawgs’ 10-yard line, and then this defense finally said enough.
Georgia tackled Chris Rodriguez for a loss of five, then forced Wan’Dale Robinson to drop a pass.
The Dawgs sent over their defensive line anchors in Jordan Davis and Devonte Wyatt for the field goal attempt, and the two-headed 655-pounded monster blew through the line and blocked the kick.
After the Wildcats gained momentum, the Dawgs took it right away and found a way to keep them from scoring three points.
Georgia finally had enough of Kentucky and their creative play calling. Georgia has held the Wildcats to 40 yards on the ground and 124 yards through the air through three quarters.
Even though it seems like Kentucky has gained more than that, they haven’t, and Georgia is slowly but surely suffocating this Wildcat offense.
If Georgia could actually get a call to go their way from the referees, it would be fantastic, but that doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen. The Dawgs haven’t had to beat a team and the refs all season, but that will be the case against Kentucky.
Georgia is a more talented team, but they must stay disciplined through the final quarter of this ball game. However, after that blocked kick, the Dawgs have all the momentum and need to put together a long drive and put this game away for good.
Kentucky came ready, but Georgia is at home in the Classic City, and now the crowd is finally into the game. The 12th Dawg better stay loud throughout the fourth quarter to help Georgia close this game out.
