Kendall Milton made the play of the game to set up Georgia football’s first touchdown of the game

On Kendall Milton’s website, Georgia football fans have the option to purchase a “2 Much Sauce” shirt. After his play on Saturday against the Wildcats, Dawgs fans may have one before the next game.

With seconds left in the first quarter, Georgia faced 2nd-and-13 from the Kentucky 28 in a 0-0 game. Quarterback Stetson Bennett dropped back to pass and facing a stiff pass rush from Kentucky, it looked like his arm was hit in the act of throwing, forcing an incompletion.

The ball trickled down the middle of the field, pinballing harmlessly between Kentucky defenders. Out of nowhere, Kendall Milton came flying in and hopped on the football.

It was about that time that folks in the stadium, and fans on TV realized, wait, was that a fumble? In fact, the officials ruled it just that.

After the ball left Bennett’s hand, the play was never blown dead. Multiple Kentucky defenders walked around aimlessly as the ball trickled by them. Absent Milton’s dogged hustle and awareness, the Dawgs may have turned the ball over and squandered their first scoring opportunity of the afternoon.

Instead, Georgia not only maintained possession, they also faced a 3rd-and-manageable instead of a 3rd-and-long.

On the next play, Stetson Bennett hit James Cook on an angle route out of the backfield for Georgia’s first touchdown of the day, giving the No. 1 team in the nation a lead they would never relinquish.

It won’t show up in the box score and it probably won’t even make most game stories, but credit Kendall Milton with the play of the game.
