Georgia Football is pioneering recruiting in an elite way
Three commitments in four days is just one of the most impressive things Georgia Football has done recently.
Not only are they the No.1 team in the country sitting at 7-0 on the year and eyeing another playoff appearance, but they currently have the No. 1 recruiting class on both Rivals and 247Sports.
Whatever head coach Kirby Smart and his coaching staff are doing has officially changed the recruiting game altogether.
The Dawgs picked up its second 2022 five-star in as many days. Georgia flipped 5-star defensive end Mykel Williams, on Wednesday and had 5-star defensive tackle Keithian “Bear” Alexander re-commit on Thursday.
Before that, the Dawgs flipped 4-star offensive lineman Aliou Bah, and he committed on Monday.
It’s been a busy week for Georgia despite having no game on Saturday.
After 5-star wideout Luther Burden chose Missouri over the Dawgs on Tuesday, when so many predicted him to choose Georgia was a bit tough. However, as wild as it seems, when one kid chooses another school over the Dawgs, there is one waiting to pull the trigger and commit anyways.
The Williams flip took over the headlines, and most everyone forgot about Burden in less than 24 hours.
This occurrence isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Instead of letting the headlines say another team got picked over Georgia, Smart and his staff give them something else to discuss.
They have different plans with different routes to make sure that they find players who want to wear the ‘G’ and be a part of this team. The Dawgs don’t take anyone nowadays. Every person they sign is all part of a process thought out by the coaching staff.
Georgia’s ability to connect with so many kids from so many states is genuinely incredible. College football recruiting hasn’t seen something like this since they started doing the ranking systems and people began to obsess over it.
Alabama is the closest one in terms of having such dominance in recruiting, but if you dive into that, Smart was a big reason for that as well. Now that he is at Georgia, Smart took those tactics with him. Nick Saban taught him some things along the way, of course, but to connect to kids the way Smart does is quite unique.
Not to mention he has a staff surrounding him that just gets it and knows when to take chances on a recruit or when just to let a kid choose another school.
Georgia is pioneering a new way to recruit by not just focusing on the stars but on the kids willing to buy into the program and compete their tails off. The Dawgs search for top-rated talent, but they dig deeper and want to know if they’re willing to develop into men and not just football players.
Smart and his staff continue to find ways to pull out the best in these players. While they get the job done, they are also having a blast while doing it. Football should be fun because it’s a game that they fell in love with as children.
Yes, it’s a business, but these are still kids, so let them continue to fall in love with the game because when they do, they’ll never truly have to work a day in their life. Instead, they can make millions playing the game they love.
