Georgia basketball fans of age will be able to purchase alcohol at Stegman Coliseum during the upcoming season.

The University of Georgia Athletic Association made an excellent decision on Wednesday as they announced a pilot alcohol program for both men’s and women’s games.

Georgia is the 11th university in the SEC to sell alcohol at athletic events. This pilot program will monitor the food and events operations alcohol sales while improving the fan experience at the Steg.

Fans will be able to purchase a variety of beers, including domestic, import, craft, premium, and they will also have seltzers available.

Of course, the university will adhere to strict responsible drinking guidelines, which is brilliant because responsible drinking is the way to go.

Fans will have to show their IDs with each purchase, and there is a limit of two beverages per individual transaction. The concession stands will offer alcoholic beverages an hour before tip-off, and sales will end at designated times.

The men’s games will end at the 12:00 time out in the second half and for the women at the end of the third quarter.

Finally, the athletic association decided to join in with 10 other SEC schools to allow alcoholic sales at events. This decision may not include football games, but it could open up the doors for other sporting events if the pilot program goes well.

This decision is an excellent one because fans will likely spend more money at the concession stand, giving them an incentive to attend more basketball games. Well, it may for some, and this decision may ruffle other fans in a negative way.

Some will think it’s silly to have alcohol sales at college events, and that’s okay. By testing it out, the athletic association can test the waters and figure out the best solution.

Alcohol sales are a great revenue builder and rolling out a pilot program gives the athletic association a chance to test the waters.

Dawg fans are passionate individuals, so hopefully, this goes well, and it can help bring in more money to the university.

Georgia basketball games could become delightful events if fans are allowed to indulge in a few adult beverages. It could also give the of-age students an incentive to pack out the student section and make it better.

Basketball games just got a lot more fun with this choice. The Dawgs need the support, so it’s a fantastic decision from the athletic association that could end up making the university a lot of money in the long run.
