After so many years of falling short in this rivalry game when it mattered, Georgia football stood up Saturday afternoon and handled its business.

It wasn’t a pretty performance from the Dawgs, but they made plays when it mattered, and that defense hung tough once again.

Not only did this win give Georgia an 8-0 start to the season, but it also allowed them to clinch the SEC East after Kentucky lost to Mississippi State Saturday night.

While it’s great to clinch the East in October, there are four games left on the schedule to worry about before the Atlanta trip.

Georgia got over the first hump they needed to, and that was beating Florida. The football gods finally allowed the Dawgs to get the win when it truly mattered.

Of course, the other three times head coach Kirby Smart led his team into Jacksonville and won were important too, but we all know what kind of implications this season has.

Now the Dawgs have a 54-44-2 overall record, and Smart is 4-2 against the Gators. That six-game start is the best a Georgia coach has started against Florida since Vince Dooley himself went 3-0-1.

Georgia football came up big. Here are eight takeaways from the Dawgs’ eighth win of the season.

The Dawgs fought hard to get this win over the Gators. Georgia leaves Jacksonville with their heads held high because they have every right to be excited about the next few weeks.

This game didn’t have to be pretty. The Dawgs just needed to win it, and if a 27 point victory over the biggest rivalry in school history, nothing will. Yes, there is work to do, a quarterback situation to figure out, and people to get healthy, but for now, let’s enjoy a win over our jort wearing rivals.

Georgia should be proud, but there are four games left until they play the SEC West champion. After watching the game, here are eight takeaways from the Dawgs win in Jacksonville.
