Georgia football suffers a manageable blow by losing starting tackle
Georgia football will be without its starting left tackle, Jamaree Salyer, on Saturday and for the foreseeable future as he injured his ankle.
Salyer is not the guy Georgia needed to lose on this offensive line because he is a veteran and one of the best protectors. However, his replacement will get some much-needed game-time experience to help him in the long run.
Broderick Jones will likely be the guy who starts in his place, and while he did a good job the last game Salyer went down in, this will be his first start.
Jones has gotten some playing time as he has seen action in all nine games, so he is the most logical choice.
However, after having what seemed like an injury-free week, the Dawgs had another go down, and it must have jinxed them because not a full day later, they are down another starter. Thankfully Georgia does have some depth in these areas that continue to get riddled with injuries. Still, when will the injury bug leave Athens?
Jones has the talent to play well in Salyer’s spot, but losing a guy like him is never a comforting feeling. Salyer is a beast for Georgia, but thankfully it seems like he won’t need surgery so he could return before the end of the season.
The youngster will have to step up in a big way because the Dawgs need to be able to block so the offense can do its job. When Jones came in the last time, the offense quickly adjusted, and things worked out in the long run.
However, this stretch of games will be great for Jones to improve his craft and get better at the things he struggles with at times. Matt Luke is an excellent offensive line coach, so that he will have Jones ready for war on Saturday.
While this injury to Salyer is not even close to ideal, it’s manageable and something the Dawgs should have no problem adjusting. Jones is at Georgia for a reason, and now he gets to show the world what he is capable of as a starter.
