Georgia football deserves to be the unanimous No. 1 ranking

No one is more deserving to be the unanimous No.1 team in the AP Top 25 poll than Georgia football.

The Dawgs have beaten teams by at least 17 points for eight straight weeks, while the rest of the Top 10 have been less than impressive.

Alabama struggled with a 4-4 LSU team. Ohio State only beat a 3-6 Nebraska team by nine points. Cincinnati barely hung on to beat Tulane by eight points.

Oklahoma was off, Oregon won by 10, but it was to a 4-4 Washington team.

Georgia was really the only one in the top 10 who handled their opponent. Some may disagree, but in all reality until another team starts demolishing teams like this, the Dawgs have a wide gap between them and Nos. 2-10 rankings.

Each week another team falls in the top-10. This time around, it was Michigan State to Purdue, which isn’t ideal for the playoff picture — it was bound to happen.

And the Wake Forest argument can finally end after losing to North Carolina in a 100-total-point shootout.

There are only four undefeated teams in college football as Georgia, Cincinnati, Oklahoma and UTSA. Three of the four are in the top-5 as UTSA moved to No.15 in the AP poll.

Each week another team falls while Georgia remains constant. Have they been perfect? No, but no team is truly perfect. The Dawgs have work to do, but they are beating teams by almost three touchdowns each week, so they just need to keep improving the small stuff and grinding.

Head coach Kirby Smart refuses to let his guys read the headlines and stuff, which is the best thing he can do. As someone who has been a part of the Alabama dynasty and seen what getting cocky can do to a team, he wants his guys to be as humble as possible.

While the Dawgs deserve to be the unanimous No.1 team in the country, they need to forget about the rankings and keep playing their game.

Georgia has three regular-season games left in Tennessee, Charleston Southern and Georgia Tech.  The Vols will be ready, but there is a sneaking suspicion that this defense will not allow much out of them.

The Dawgs have seen teams come in confident all season long just to get blown out and lose by two-plus touchdowns. The Vols will host the Dawgs, but Neyland Stadium could very well see more Red than Orange by the end of the game.

Georgia knows what their goal is, and while it’s obtainable — humility is a week away. So if the Dawgs continue to fight and win like this, the main goal will happen. They just must stay the course.
