Georgia football has gotten a lot of love from the media analysts as the season has progressed, and rightfully so. Still, ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit decided to make a bold prediction on Wednesday that may or may not be what Dawg fans need to hear.

Paul Finebaum had Herbstreit on his show Wednesday, and during that segment, the ESPN College GameDay analyst said he didn’t think Alabama could beat Georgia right now.

Deep breathe, Georgia fans, I know. It’s weird to read and hear that come out of Herbstreit’s mouth.

However, after watching Alabama struggle against LSU last week, is he wrong for thinking that?

Georgia continues to steamroll opponents each week, no matter who the opponent is. However, for Alabama, they got lucky the Bayou Bengals didn’t have more juice, or they would have lost.

Right now, the Tide looks vulnerable, and the Dawgs look unstoppable. Granted to some Georgia fans, nothing is going right, and they’ve just gotten lucky, but if anyone watches the film, this team has something special happening.

The Dawgs are on a six-game losing streak to Alabama. Georgia fell to the Tide last year 41-24, which hurt, but this year’s team isn’t the same as last year. There are similarities, but there has been so much growth since Oct. 10, 2020.

Not to mention, Georgia’s defense is on an elite level and has a point to prove.

Herbstreit has seen this team first hand and has seen Alabama, so he has every right to his opinion. It’s a bit shocking because, as Georgia fans, the PTSD is still there. Forty-one years is a long time, and well, there have been more heartbreak, with a lot of it coming from the hands of Alabama.

The Tide is one of the last humps the Dawgs have to get over, and they could get a chance in Atlanta.

While part of us wants to be excited about Herbstreit’s prediction — it’s still Alabama, and well, it’s hard to think Georgia will do it until they do.

Herbstreit is correct in saying Georgia’s defense is elite and, on paper, is good enough to beat Alabama, but well again, the Tide has had the Dawgs number for a while.

However, if there were any time the Dawgs could beat Alabama, it’s this season. It’s exciting to hear Herbstreit endorse Georgia, though, because that is long overdue.

If he thinks the Dawgs can do it, then maybe it is time to get excited and have hope that Georgia is on its way to another national title.

We’re not saying what Herbstreit said during Wednesday’s  Paul Finebaum show is wrong, but it’s still early to think that this could happen. Enjoy this kind of love, though, Dawg fans, because this season is extremely special, and if Georgia goes all the way, it’ll feel so satisfying to end the four-decade drought.
