Georgia football sees success from both sides in the red zone

Georgia football has done a tremendous job at improving their red zone stats on both sides of the ball.

The defense has allowed just six touchdowns all year and 76 points through 10 games. To give up 7.6 points on average, this group builds a wall on the goal line and keeps teams out of their endzone.

Georgia’s opponents have gone 12-of-21 overall in the red zone, with Tennessee going 3-of-5. The Vols had the most success, but this stat is still significant because Georgia went 4-of-4 in the red zone, meaning when they got deep in Tennessees’ territory, they scored, but the Vols didn’t.

That stat may not be that impressive right now, but the Dawgs came into this matchup 36-of-41 in red-zone situations, averaging a score 88% of the time, so to see them improve that to 100% is a good thing. It means Todd Monken and head coach Kirby Smart are calling the right plays, and Jack Podlesny is making his kicks.

Georgia has now gone 40-of-45 in red-zone situations, so their season average stays the same at 88%, but it’s progress. The Dawgs are 27-of-45 in red-zone touchdowns, averaging six points 60% of the time. That number is a solid percentage to have, but as long as you’re scoring points when you get that close to the endzone, that is all that matters.

The Dawgs’ offense is getting better by the week with players returning from injury, so the next few weeks could see these red zone stats improve even more.

Georgia got dominant win No. 10 on Saturday, and while there are always things to clean up, they should be pleased with their performance. The Dawgs are on the right track to do something great. Now they just need to stay healthy and stay focused.
