Georgia football already has the No.1 recruiting class for 2022, with Dec. 15 just a couple of weeks away, but the Dawgs aren’t quite finished.
Currently, the Dawgs have 24 commits in the 2022 class, and according to 247Sports Composite team rankings, they are the No.1 nationally, No.1 in the SEC and have a .9274 average rating.
The Dawgs are looking to have around 28 commitments, so Georgia has only four spots left to fill. Those four are likely already done, and they just haven’t made it public yet.
Georgia football will make other coaches scratch their heads on December signing day.
There are a few big names left out there that the Dawgs want in this class, but there are also opportunities that are going to come from the transfer portals. Regardless, Georgia will drop the mic and show the rest of the college football world how to recruit.
With so much turnover with other Power 5 schools changing coaches left and right, there is one constant through it all — Georgia. Switching coaches this close to signing day isn’t always a great idea because it takes time to build relationships and such, but here we are watching teams fire and rehire coaches.
Lincoln Riley going to Southern Cal will cause a lot of the Oklahoma recruiting turmoil. Brian Kelly didn’t handle the Notre Dame situations very well, and how LSU recruits will feel about that is unclear. There are more, but you get the point.
While all that is going on, and taking focus, what does head coach Kirby Smart do — he steals focus and has a guy pledge in the midst of it all.
Late Monday night, Georgia picked up three-star defensive lineman Shone Washington out of New Orleans.
According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he is the No. 21 player in Louisiana. A one-time LSU commitment, Washington decommitted from the Bayou Bengals on Jan. 17 and reopened everything.
Washington took his official visit to Georiga on Nov. 19 for the Charleston Southern game, and it seems like it was a good fit for him. The Dawgs needed some big men up front, and they got one as he is 6-3 and 297-pounds.
He is the latest to pledge, but the Dawgs have some serious names left on their board.
Some names to remember are 5-star safety Kamari Wilson, 5-star defensive lineman Shemar Stewart and 4-star linebacker Shemar James. There are a few guys who could flip from their current teams as well.
The Dawgs will finish strong and will likely have their class done in December so that they won’t worry about the February signing period.
Georgia football is making a statement on the field this year, but also on the recruiting trail. This class head coach Kirby Smart and his staff are putting together are one of his best yet, if not the best. Enjoy the ride for the next month, Dawg fans, because when you’re No.1 in the country and stomping teams, the recruits flock to that school.
