Georgia football is still No. 1 in this week’s CFP Rankings, and rightfully so because they are the only squad that has yet to have a team challenge them. This week, the Dawgs will have plenty of new fans, as one loss could turn the whole playoff picture around.

While the Dawgs remained No.1, Michigan jumped to the No.2 spot after manhandling Ohio State last week. Alabama remained No. 3 and Cincinnati No. 4.

Oklahoma State jumped from No. 7 to No. 5 after coming back and beating Oklahoma. Notre Dame rounds out the top six as the Fighting Irish also came out victorious during rivalry week.

Georgia football will have most of the other top-10 teams rooting for them this week.

The Pokes and the Irish both need Alabama to lose on Saturday to keep their playoff hopes alive. At the same time, Oklahoma State needs to handle its business against Baylor in the Big 12 Championship game.

Of course, Notre Dame doesn’t have a conference title game to play in, so they are playing the waiting game. With their head coach leaving, the Irish could want the least chaos to happen as possible. The Irish would essentially need Michigan and Alabama to lose for the best chance, but that doesn’t seem like it’ll happen.

Cincinnati can secure their place in the playoffs if they can win, and if the Tide loses — they could even move to No. 3 depending on the circumstances.

Georgia has one job to do on Saturday, and that is to beat Alabama to knock them out of contention.

The Dawgs are in no matter what, but a win could allow for a whole new playoff because they would be the only team with any experience. So Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, and even Cincinnati are rooting for the Dawgs this weekend because it gives them the best chance possible to be one of the final four remaining.

No one outside of Alabama fans wants the Tide to win because it’s time for a change and time for other teams to be in the playoffs. Alabama should be on razor-thin ice right now after their four-overtime win over Auburn last week.

If the Tigers had any sense, they wouldn’t have lost that game, and this conversation wouldn’t happen. However, Alabama is going to do Alabama things, so of course, they won.

Oklahoma State will probably be the biggest Georgia fan of them all because if they beat Baylor, then the Pokes should be the No. 4 team. They beat the Bears by 10 points earlier in the season, so that’ll be a game to watch.

They’ve got one of the better defenses and a No. 4 Pokes team against a No.1 Georgia team is mighty appealing.

So it’s coming down to whether or not the Dawgs can take down Alabama, and if Georgia wins by multiple scores, the Tide will have to enjoy a New Year’s Six bowl game and watch the Dawgs in the playoffs.
