Georgia football wide receiver George Pickens made his official return last week, but he made his first impact in Saturday’s game to set up the Dawgs’ first score of the game.

That catch set up a red zone opportunity for the Dawgs to strike, and they did with a Darnell Washington touchdown pass. While the Tide made their own statement the following drive, Georgia still leads 10-3.

A big reason is because of that catch. It was on first down, but the Dawgs were driving after starting on their own three-yard line.

Eight plays and 97 yards later, the Dawgs gained some confidence.

Welcome back, George Pickens. Your impact has been so missed this year.

Starting quarterback Stetson Bennett connected with the 6-5 wideout for a 37-yard pass, where he manhandled the defensive back and got just enough space to go up and get the catch.

This game is going to be a straight-up battle between two of the best teams in the country, but boy, is it great to see George Pickens return and make a grab like that. The knee held up well, and he looked like his old self.

Having him go up and make those catches is something the Dawgs have been missing this season. While they’ve had success with the deep pass, the ability for Pickens to beat out a defensive back the way he did, is what makes him such an elite receiver.

He is the X-factor, on the field making plays like this or on the sidelines. Pickens is a force and someone every defense will have to keep tabs on because he will beat the defender if it’s one-on-one.

Pickens is such a playmaker, and hopefully, the wideout will get a few more targets like that because Alabama had a hard time covering him.
