Georgia football: A quick look into Michigan and the Orange Bowl
Georgia football will head to South Florida for the Captial One Orange Bowl to take on the Michigan Wolverines in the semifinals of the College Football Playoffs.
After falling short of winning the SEC Championship, the Dawgs fell to No.3 in the CFP rankings as they and Alabama switched spots — rightfully so.
Michigan stayed at No.2, and Cincinnati stayed at No. 4, becoming the first Group of 5 schools to make the playoffs. This playoff will be exciting to participate in, with two new faces competing.
With the Dawgs taking on Michigan, it will be another gauntlet of a game in Miami. The Wolverines are coming into this matchup with confidence and a physical football team.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh has done an excellent job coaching his team to beat Ohio State and numerous other programs this season to get where they are.
The Dawgs and Wolverines are 12-1 on the season and are two of the most physical teams.
Georgia football will see another physical opponent in the Wolverines
This Orange Bowl will be the first time since 1960 that the Dawgs will have played in it. Georgia posts a 2-1 record in the event. The first time they played in the Orange Bowl was in 1942. That same year, they won the school’s first national title when Georgia beat TCU 40-26.
The Dawgs have only played Michigan twice, and it’s been 56 years since the last time they did. Georgia is 1-1 against the Wolverines after losing in 1957 26-0, but winning that second meeting 15-7.
Michigan beat two ranked opponents to get to the playoffs and is one of the hottest football teams. They average 37.69 points a game, and their defense gives up 16.08 points.
The Wolverines average 223.8 rushing yards a game and 5.3 yards a carry while averaging 228.08 passing yards and 8.26 yards an attempt. They are about as balanced as an offense comes, so the Dawgs will need to be ready for that.
Georgia and Michigan will face off against each other on ESPN at 7:30 p.m., so Dawg fans, you’re finally getting the night game that yall have wanted all season. Granted, it’ll be in Miami and not Athens, but it still counts.
Miami will be an enjoyable place to be in on Dec. 31st, especially if the Dawgs beat the Wolverines. Regardless, this showdown will be so fun to be a part of and compete in because only four get into the playoffs.
