There wasn’t another freshman like Georgia football tight end Brock Bowers that impacted a team this year as he did. His efforts finally paid off as he earned SEC Freshman of the Year.

He may not have been a John Mackey Award finalist, but that doesn’t matter. Being the best freshman in the toughest conference is far more impressive. Plus, he can win the Mackey the next two seasons, so it is what it is, Georgia can’t win all the awards.

Bowers has made an impact from the first game against Clemson to the lastest against Alabama.

At this point, it’s safe to assume, Bowers doesn’t realize that he is just a freshman and has a couple of more years to impress. We’re not complaining, though, because he has been a prominent factor in Georgia’s success this season.

Georgia football tight end Brock Bowers was the only logical choice in SEC Freshman of the Year.

Through 13 games, Bowers has 47 catches for 791 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also has four rushes for 56 yards and one score.

Bowers recorded four 100-yard receiving games this year against UAB, Kentucky, Georgia Tech and Alabama.

He broke the school’s single-season receiving yard record by a tight end and is two catches away from tying the school’s record of tight end catches. Not to mention, Bowers tied Terrance Edwards single-season touchdown receptions at 11. He has at least one game to play, so it’s possible to break.

Bowers could get close to breaking Edward’s single-season receiving yard record too. Edwards is the lone Bulldog to record a 1,000-yard season, and Bowers is just 211 yards away from doing so.

When Darnell Washington got hurt, he took the opportunity, and Bowers ran with it. Bowers said, hey, yall watch this and hasn’t looked back to see if anyone has caught up to him.

Bowers is the seventh Dawg to earn SEC Freshman of the Year honors, as the fellow SEC coaches voted him for it. Jake Fromm was the last to earn this award, so Bowers joined some notable company.

His freshman season isn’t over yet — with at least one game left, Bowers has the opportunity to really rewrite the record books and leave a mark right away on the Georgia football program.

The Dawgs are lucky he is a freshman and have a few more seasons with him.

No opponent seemed too big. Even Alabama had a hard time containing him. Bowers is just a special player, and Georgia is so lucky to have him on the team. Usually, Georgia doesn’t get these kinds of tight ends, but Bowers is shifting the narrative of the Dawgs not using their tight ends because he showed everyone they do use them.

There isn’t anyone more worthy of the SEC Freshman of the Year award than Bowers. He is one of the biggest playmakers and showed that regardless of age, if you have the tools to succeed, it’ll pay off with a little hard work and dedication.
