Georgia football has a loaded 2022 recruiting class, but since the transfer portal started, head coach Kirby Smart isn’t afraid to go plucking through it as well.
The Dawgs have gotten JT Daniels out of the portal, Derion Kendrick, Tyke Smith, and many others. Some of these guys in the portal are just trying to find the right fit, and it’s becoming a lot like the college free agency.
Georgia hasn’t seen a ton of their kids leave in the portal this season, so how many the Dawgs could grab is still up in the air.
This year the portal is fuller than ever, and there are some good guys in there, but many of those positions aren’t what the Dawgs are looking for in the portal. As we mentioned in a previous article, Georgia will likely be looking for secondary players, wide receivers and linebackers.
Georgia football could hit the transfer portal again this year to meet some needs.
The transfer portal has been an excellent tool for the Dawgs to bring in some experience where they needed it. There are some highly talented players in the areas Georgia needs this year, but the Dawgs have to figure out how many they can take. Since there hasn’t been a ton of transfer portal movement from this year’s team, it’s hard to measure.
So they could consider how many are graduating, that would help too. The Dawgs are also trying to close out the 2022 recruiting class in February, but some of these more prominent transfer portal names may be gone by then.
Smart has his guys on it, I bet, and when they find a good fit, they will go after them. We’ve had some names listed as targets, but most of them decided to stay at their original school, or they’ve selected another team.
For now, let’s have some fun discussing some names the Dawgs could target in the transfer portal.
