Even if Stetson Bennett and JT Daniels leave Georgia football for the NFL — and this is a big if — there is sufficient doubt whether Carson Beck could be the starting quarterback in 2022.

In recent years, the Bulldogs quarterback position has become something of a soap opera, making Kirby Smart defensive about his decisions and thoughts on the quarterback play in general.

This discussion means that it is nigh on impossible to get inside the head of Smart to predict what will happen next. He doesn’t have to tell anyone and shouldn’t get questioned, but here we are dealing with it.

But one thing is inevitable with the 5-star recruit, Gunner Stockton, signing this week, the competition for the starting position got more competitive.

Beck has the most to lose by staying with Brock Vandagriff, a popular choice with fans and the coaching staff. Despite some public outpourings of support from Georgia star Aaron Murray about Beck’s ability, he still remained the No. 3 quarterback.

We saw him some this season, as he played in four games, completing 10-of-23 for 176 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions and completed 43.48% of his passes.

With Bennett driving Georgia football forward this seasoning Daniels waiting in the shadows, Beck has had no meaningful opportunity this season.

This predicament does not bode well for Beck going into the 2022 season. It wouldn’t be crazy to see him transfer to another program so he can get the playing time he deserves.

The quarterback position is likely where Georgia football loses its first casualty to the transfer portal.
