Georgia football: Dawgs see impressive grading in Orange Bowl victory
Georgia football defensive line: A+
Two defensive units earned A+ grades, and the defensive line is one of them, with the linebackers being the other.
Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, DeVonte Wyatt, and the rest of that defensive line did a tremendous job and silenced any haters who had something to say.
Davis isn’t slow, and he proved that running down an offensive player to prevent a significant gain. Carter and Davis both pancaked Michigan players a few times and made big plays. Wyatt forced one of the fumbles and earned a quarterback hurry. Davis finished with two tackles while Carter recorded three.
This group manhandled the best offensive line in the country without skipping a beat. Michigan had no answers for the big Dawgs up front, and it showed.
With them getting the advantage off the snap, it allowed the linebackers to put a ton of pressure on the quarterbacks and earn those four sacks. The defensive line also did a great job at putting pressure on.
Tray Scott had his men ready for that offensive line and showed who the better line was on the night. When those linemen came in with “Run the Damn Ball” shirts on for warm-ups, I had a suspicion that the defensive front seven would nip that in the bud quickly.
This group held one of the best rush attacks to 88 rushing yards on 27 carries. The Wolverines averaged 3.3 yards a touch, and Hassan Haskins recorded just 39 yards on nine carries.
Georgia knew they had to contain their runners to win this game, and they did just that. The longest run of the day for Michigan was 19 yards, and the Dawgs need to be happy with that performance.
