Georgia football fans better join the Stetson Bennett fan club before it’s full

After the Orange Bowl win, Georgia football starting quarterback Stetson Bennett had his teammates cheering him on in the postgame interview and then had his name chanted by the fans.

He deserved the Offensive MVP honors, but more importantly, he earned this admiration from his teammates. The portion of the fan base which hasn’t gotten behind the quarterback needs to do so because if you don’t, the regret will be real when he wins it all for Georgia.

There aren’t many players who love Georgia the way Bennett does, yet so many people refuse to see that. Sometimes the most physically talented quarterbacks don’t ever amount to much because they lack connection.

Bennett doesn’t lack the connection. Instead, he passionately loves his university and does everything in his power to help lead this team to success. He gets what it means to be a Dawg and how special it is to wear that uniform.

Georgia football has the biggest Stetson Bennett fan club in his teammates, and now the whole fan base needs to get on board.

Forget the past and forget the issues because those things don’t matter anymore. Some will never be able to do that, and it’s understandable, but Bennett deserves this love.

Led by Nolan Smith, a handful of his teammates kept yelling “mailman” while ESPN’s Marty Smith interviewed Bennett after the game. They love him and trust him just as much as the coaches do.

If you don’t think these players see what people say on Twitter and other platforms, you’re mistaken, and I will assume this action after the big win was to say we love our quarterback, and you should too.

When will the portion of this fan base realize sometimes it takes a former walk-on to do something great. Once again, this Bennett story isn’t about giving a good story. In fact, calling it a feel-good story is an insult for the work QB13 has put in for the University of Georgia.

He worked his tail off to prove himself and worked until he earned the starting job and kept the job. Why do people feel like the entire team is just going with this story to keep face? No, he earned every bit of what he has going for him right now, and Bennett deserves respect.

When these players stop celebrating themselves to make sure he knows they love him, that should tell the fan base everything about how they feel.

Bennett won the hearts of his team over a long time ago, and now it’s time for the portion of the fanbase who refuses to give this young man credit to do so. It’s past time because Bennett is the starting quarterback and provides the Dawgs with the best chance possible to win a national championship.

We’re not coaches, don’t know what goes on behind the closed doors, and shouldn’t trash him.

His journey has been epic, from being the Georgia Baker Mayfield that helped the Dawgs win the 2018 Rose Bowl semifinal game to becoming the starting quarterback in the 2021 Orange Bowl and leading Georgia to a 34-11 victory over Michigan.

Not many people have a journey like this, and it’s pretty evident Bennett is taking it all in and enjoying the ride. He worked hard to be here, so he should enjoy it.

Georgia fans are all so worried about rat poison and how he isn’t the right quarterback but don’t even realize they’re producing as much toxin as others are. Bennett doesn’t owe anyone anything, and he is stronger than most people in the world for the sheer strength to be the starting quarterback.

There are too many false expectations from a fanbase who refuses to see his heart and passion for Georgia football. Instead of letting it phase him like criticism has phased so many other highly-touted quarterbacks, Bennett puts his head down and works hard to get better.

This journey has at least one more game, and it’ll be the most important one of his career. His teammates and coaches believe in him, and now the fanbase should too. Whatever happens, we should support him and know Bennett left it all on the field for the team we all love — the one he loves too.

Who knows — he could be the hero Georgia needed all along.
