If Georgia football poaches anyone it should be Mario Williams

Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart isn’t afraid to poach anyone out of the infamous transfer portal. While Oklahoma quarterback Caleb Williams has been the name circling around the most, but if Georgia wants to poach anyone from the Sooners, it should be Mario Williams, a wide receiver.

As we’ve mentioned in previous transfer portal articles, the Dawgs could use another weapon at the receiver position, and Mario is a playmaker.

The Sooners landed the former 4-star Plant City, Fla., during the 2021 recruiting cycle, and he made an impact immediately at Oklahoma. He was the fourth leading wideout for the Sooners with 35 catches for 380 yards and four touchdowns. Williams averaged 10.86 yards a catch and played in 12 of the Sooners’ 13 games.

Georgia football needs to let Mario Williams know they need a solid wideout through the transfer portal.

He is a gritty wideout that can play multiple areas as he also does kick-off returns for the Sooners. Williams had five returns for 108 yards and averaged 21.60 yards a return.

Georgia could see Kearis Jackson leave after this season, so replacing him would be something they need to do. While there are many wide receivers the Dawgs could use, Williams, is one of those wideouts you need on your team because he is a guy who can make something out of nothing.

Williams is a twitchy wide receiver who is extremely athletic. He may be 5-9 and 186-pounds, but he can do a lot with that smaller frame. He had five catches for 100 yards and a score against Texas Tech, his season-high. Plus, Mario was a reliable target for Caleb Williams as there was only one game Mario didn’t record a catch.

Georgia could use a solid return guy, and while there is Ladd McConkey, adding someone like Williams only makes the wideout room more competitive. Wideout coach Cortez Hankton loves an excellent wide receiver from Florida, and Williams came out of that state as one of the most talented ones.

He has the experience and would make a great addition to the receiver room. Georgia was interested during his recruitment, but it was all Sooners for him, and that’s okay, but with Lincoln Riley leaving, he is just one of many to hop into the portal. Williams could follow Riley to Southern California, but maybe not.

Georgia could use both Mario and Caleb, but at the same time, there is more of a need for good receivers than another quarterback, at least in my opinion. The Dawg should jump on this one quickly because I feel he won’t be in the portal long.
