Georgia football Defense must pressure Bryce Young strategically

Pressure will be the most significant thing Georgia football’s defense needs to do against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The Dawgs tallied zero sacks against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, and that is really uncharacteristic for this defense. They love to wreak havoc, and they didn’t do much of that at all against the Tide.

Alabama starting quarterback Bryce Young went 18-of-24 for 330 yards and three scores when the Dawgs didn’t blitz him in the SEC Championship Game, but when they did, Young went 8-of-20 for 91 yards.

So the Dawgs need to make sure they get pressure on him but don’t leave the back end of the defense hanging, resulting in a blown coverage or explosive play because they don’t get to Young in enough time.

We know that Georgia’s weakness is the secondary, but if the Dawgs can pressure strategically, they can put guys back there to help.

Nakobe Dean, while he is a sack monster, is one of the best linebackers when he has to drop back in coverage, so Dan Lanning, Glenn Schumann, and Will Muschamp need to recognize these things to make sure the secondary doesn’t get burned over and over again.

Georgia has to put Young on his back a couple of times, but what will be necessary is the quarterback hurry and make him force throws before he is ready to. The Dawgs have 223 quarterback hurries on the season and 30 last week. When they get pressure, they can do what they need to, and Alabama is no different.
