Georgia football must limit the explosive plays

One of the biggest reasons Alabama beat Georgia in the SEC Championship game was the Dawgs’ atrocious second-quarter performance.

Georgia gave up nine explosive plays in that second quarter and 12 total. While the Dawgs produced 12 explosive plays of their own, giving up nine in one quarter proved highly detrimental and a big reason the Dawgs couldn’t get back in the game.

The Dawgs did a great job the other three quarters as they didn’t give up one explosive play in the first quarter, one in the third and two in the fourth.

So while the Dawgs adjusted a did a better job as the game progressed, those nine explosive plays were too costly and produced too deep of a hole for them to dig out of that night.

Georgia’s secondary better get ready because they will get targeted by Alabama. They better get ready to play tough. If Georgia can limit them to under nine explosive plays, it will be a significant improvement.

However, if the Dawgs can pressure Bryce Young, those explosive play numbers would also decrease. Georgia needs to play their ballgame, and the rest will come with it. The explosive plays don’t happen when that defense is on their A-game.

Georgia football can win this national championship, and it’s true as surreal as it feels. The Dawgs just need to try and make these six things happen, but at the end of the day, they play within themselves and give it everything they have without losing themselves.
