Heisman winning quarterback — Bryce Young

Does it surprise Georgia football fans that Bryce Young was the first quarterback to win the Heisman for Alabama?

It kind of feels like this should come as a shock, but he is. Previous Heisman winners in Tuscaloosa are running backs Mark Ingram and Derrick Henry and wide receiver Devonte Smith.

It’s also a little bit of good fortune that Young grew up to play football, albeit he has been playing football his whole life. He was hyperactive as a child, and his parents would make him run about in the garden to let off steam.

Young’s father, Craig, was a football coach and gave him a ball to throw from when he was old enough to hold a ball — again a ploy to expend energy. This action resulted in happier parents and Young playing YMCA football since he was three years old.

So Young has been scrambling from the age of three, and if Georgia is to stop a repeat of the SEC Championship game where he threw for 421 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 40 yards and a score, Georgia will need to heap the pressure on Young.

But as was evident against Auburn in the Iron Bowl, get pressure on Young, and the game changes. The Tigers sacked Young seven times in the first half alone, where you will recall Alabama did not score a single point in the first two quarters.
