Georgia football wide receiver George Pickens reminded the Alabama Crimson Tide how good he is after coming up big for the Dawgs by catching a 52-yard first-down pass.
That catch allowed the Dawgs to eventually get on the board with a 24-yard field goal, but it was what Georgia needed after going three-and-out a couple of times in a row.
Georgia looks pretty stale on offense while the defense continues to find ways to stop Alabama, so this catch was a big moment for the Dawgs’ offense.
George Pickens finally woke up the Georgia football offense.
This week, we mentioned in an article that Pickens doesn’t need 10 catches for 100 yards. Instead, a few meaningful snags are far more important in this game than anything else.
Pickens has one now for 52 yards, and it was epic. He proved how good his hands are with this catch, and you have to shake your head at how good this catch truly is.
Those catches usually pop out after hitting the ground, but Pickens wasn’t about to let that happen. Pickens has some of the best hands in college football, and why he will make a lot of money in the NFL.
He is also still rehabbing from that ACL tear in the spring of 2021. It’s crazy that he is playing in the College Football Championship Game because those injuries could take a year or more to heal fully.
This catch could be the moment the Dawgs needed on offense to get comfortable and gain some much-needed confidence. Starting quarterback Stetson Bennett struggled the first series, dropping the ball, taking a sack, and just looking rattled, so seeing him land that pass was what he needed.
Georgia has shown some tremendous pressure on the defense, and now it’s up to the offense to put together a long drive so that the Dawgs can rest their big defenders. The Dawgs offense needs some more momentum on offense, but they are hanging with an explosive Alabama team for now.
