Georgia football just won the national championship, and even that isn’t enough for the folks who do the too-early Top-25 polls.

In the ESPN too early 2022 poll, the Dawgs land in the No.3 spot behind a two-loss No.2 Ohio State, and you guessed it, a two-loss No. 1 Alabama.

Sure, the Tide has the Heisman Trophy winner returning for his junior season and the country’s sack leader returning, but come on, they just lost in the national championship and got rewarded with this ranking.

What does Georgia have to do to get some respect? They won the national championship with a former walk-on quarterback, and sure they’re likely going to lose a chunk of that defense, but they won the national title.

Georgia football deserves to be No.1 in the too early 2022 polls, not No.3.

Since when does the reigning national champion not rank No.1 in the preseason polls? Oh wait, it seems like the alleged Alabama bias still holds firm. Clemson got treated in a similar way when they first beat Alabama in the title game, so it doesn’t come as a surprise.

However, it’s still disrespectful. Georgia could contend next season once again, even if they lose some of their key playmakers, but nope, they’re no better than a two-loss Ohio State team or the team they just beat in the title game. Georgia doesn’t care, and they shouldn’t, but it’s ridiculous not to give the national title winners top priority.

It’s silly, and they ranked the teams like this because evidently ESPN wants to create a conversation, and well, they did.

Ohio State may have a lot of talent returning, but a new defensive coordinator doesn’t automatically mean they should be No. 2 in the country.

These polls don’t matter because it is Jan. 11, and the season is months away, but ESPN clearly doesn’t want to give the Dawgs any credit for taking down Alabama in the national championship game.

Maybe it was because the Dawgs struggled in the first half offensively, and it took an alleged fumble that led to Alabama scoring a touchdown to spark the Dawgs’ offense, but Georgia didn’t break. They rose up when it mattered, stuffed Alabama, picked off that Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, and took it 79 yards to the house to win 33-18.

They became the second group since the AP poll started to beat 14 teams by 15 or more points. Stetson Bennett became the first former walk-on quarterback to win the playoff championship and a national title.

What more do the Dawgs need to do to get respect across the board? Evidently, a lot since ESPN didn’t give them the respect they deserved in this ranking.

However, that’s fine — Georgia will take the disrespect and keep that chip on their shoulder moving into 2022.
