Three freshmen that helped Georgia football win the title
Georgia football TE Brock Bowers
With AD Mitchell scoring that must-have touchdown, Georgia football refused to let up after gaining that momentum. The Dawgs forced a three-and-out when Alabama got the ball back, allowing Georgia to get the ball with 7:10 left on the clock.
Brock Bowers, one of Bennett’s favorite targets all season long, continued to rewrite the history books after catching his 13th touchdowns and recorded 882 yards as a true freshman.
Bennett knew he could trust this young man to make a play, and instead of running it on 3rd and one like they usually would, he pulled it back and threw it to Bowers.
The pass was far from perfect. It may have even gotten batted, but the true freshman made the grab, and when he saw the endzone, no one would stop him from scoring.
This drive was a massive moment for the Dawgs, and it was only fitting the guy who was Georgia’s biggest weapon all season scored the final offensive touchdown.
The Dawgs got the ball with seven minutes left, and they took off with four straight runs to get it to the Alabama 46 yard line.
George Pickens drew pass interference on an overthrown pass, which was one of the smartest moves he could make, and that put the Dawgs on the 39-yard line with a fresh set of downs.
Bennett connected with Bowers for a 15-yard score two plays later and gave the Dawgs a 26-18 lead. This drive was another momentum shifter adding to their lead instead of going three-and-out as they’ve done in the past.
Georgia scoring on this drive was huge and put one more nail in Alabama’s coffin. However, the Dawgs weren’t done yet as one more freshman had to make his play.
