Georgia football CB Kelee Ringo

With a 26-18 lead and 3:33 to go on the game clock, Georgia football had their first national title in 40-years at their fingertips, but as we’ve seen in years’ past, these were the moments Alabama found a way to get down the field and scored to tie it up or win.

However, the Dawgs’ defense wouldn’t let that happen this time. They wanted to leave a legacy, and they did just that. Georgia started the season with a pick-six from Christopher Smith, a senior defensive back, and then finished the year with a pick-six from Kelee Ringo, a redshirt freshman.

Everything came full circle for the Dawgs, and that 79-yard return sealed the deal and nailed Alabama’s coffin shut.  He knew that ball was coming, and he watched it come all the way. Ringo jumped up and caught that ball, and the moment everyone knew Georiga was national champions.

The streak was over, and down went Alabama. Ringo had a tough game with a few big catches on his watch, but he made the play when it mattered the most. Everyone wanted him to go down, but he saw the endzone, and nothing would stop him from getting there. Dan Jackson took one heck of a hit to make sure he got the score, but it was all worth it.

Ringo has been such a force for the Dawgs this season after missing last year with a shoulder injury, so to see this young man come full circle and make a play like this tells us all Georgia’s secondary is in good hands.

Georgia looked to two offensive freshmen to score and take the lead late in the game. Then the defense did what they’ve done all year and caused havoc at the right moment allowing another freshman to make what will likely be one of the biggest plays in Georgia football history.

The Dawgs did it, and it happened because of these three freshmen making sure they made the play when they needed to. It reminds us a lot of Alabama having a bunch of freshmen come in to beat Georgia in 2018, so it’s a great feeling seeing Georgia’s freshman do the same thing to them.
