JT Daniels may need to reconsider his transfer decision
Georgia football quarterback JT Daniels could be transferring once again as reports from DawgNation suggest he will eventually enter his name into the transfer portal.
While some may feel like transferring is Daniels’ best option, especially if Stetson Bennett returns for the 2022 season, it may not be if you look at the bigger picture.
How successful has a quarterback who transfers more than once had in the past? What would this process for him look like, and would it be worth it? There have been some success stories with quarterbacks transferring twice, but how big of a risk would that be for him right now with how college football is? Would it be worth it?
If he feels like this is his best route to success and it’s what he wants, then he should do it. However, it may be better to stay and compete it out in the spring and then decide.
JT Daniels needs to take a deep breath and realize staying with Georgia football may be his best option.
Bennett hasn’t announced if he is staying or not, so why not be patient and see how the offseason goes. He would have to sit out if he transferred now, but Daniels would be eligible immediately if he graduated. It seems odd to make a decision now with so much still in the air, but the good thing is he can remove his name from the portal if Daniels chooses to stay.
Daniels came to Georgia from Southern Cal after hurting his knee. He would close out the final four games in 20202 as the starter, and it seemed the job was his to lose.
Daniels signed NIL deals throughout the offseason, talked about his teammates and how much he loved them and showed the fan base why Georgia picked him. Unfortunately for him, he got hurt but toughed it out for the Clemson game, and then it flared back up, causing him to miss games.
Bennett took advantage of it, and the Dawgs would eventually stick it out with the Mailman while still suggesting he and Daniels were competing it out and that there was a possibility for the junior to play. He ended up not playing as Bennett took the Dawgs to a national championship win, but Daniels was right by his teammate’s side the entire time.
Daniels is a class act that shows how good a teammate he is. This whole situation had to be tough for him, but instead of letting it show, he was there for Bennett, helped him get better and was another set of eyes on the sideline. Wherever Bennett was, Daniels was just off to the side supporting him.
After the national championship game, the photo of the two quarterbacks was what we all needed to see. These two love each other and are supportive. However, Daniels has to decide on his future and whether or not that is in Athens. He wants to make it into the NFL, and it’s hard to find success in the league playing as a backup quarterback.
Daniels hasn’t officially put his name into the portal but reports expect him to sooner than later. While he may think that is the best decision for him right now, maybe he should stick it out and see what happens with Bennett.
Plus, if Bennett did leave, Daniels would be the most experienced quarterback, and it would likely be his job to lose. The Dawgs will probably lose Carson Beck to the transfer portal as well, so the quarterback room could go from full to empty once again. Georgia has been in this situation before, so if they can prevent it from happening.
Daniels may need to be patient just a little longer because it could work out for him. If it doesn’t, he could graduate and move on with immediate eligibility by the end of spring. Daniels should do what he feels is best for him, but it does put the Dawgs in an interesting situation.
