It’s simple Georgia football can repeat with Stetson Bennett at QB

Georgia football got the news that Stetson Bennett will return for the 2022 season as a super senior, which is fantastic news. The guy who just took your team to the national championship and won it will be back to help lead the offense.

He will use his COVID-19 year and come back to compete with the other quarterbacks and help the Dawgs get another shot at a national championship.

Bennett is a proven winner, and even if people think he isn’t the right guy for the job, his record and the coaches beg to differ.

Georgia football will see Stetson Bennett back in 2022.

While we ran an article earlier this week stating that we thought he should hang up the cleats and go out on top, we admit it was premature. It was his decision, and if he wants one more year to try and repeat what he did in 2021, we will give our support.

We’re on the Mailman train, and that previous article wasn’t a dig at him but just something we could all think about. Sometimes, you have to hear a different perspective on a situation to realize the analysis given wasn’t the right one.

UGASports does a weekly podcast with former head coach Jim Donnan, and he explained it in a way that changed my mind and realized  Bennett should stick around for one more year. Donnan was high on him and even compared him to Tom Brady, so there is something about this young man that excites the staff, and so we need to ride this mail truck all the way to the glory land.

All he could keep saying is how bright Georgia’s future is, and Benett will be a part of it. Donnan doesn’t sugarcoat things, so his words on Bennett and this team changed my opinion.

Plus, if we think about it, Bennett only has a losing record against one opponent, and that is Alabama. While he lost to Florida the previous year, he is 1-1 against the Gators.

Bennett finished the season with a 176.69 quarterback rating, which was No. 2 in the SEC. He went 185-of-287 for 2,862 yards, 29 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Looking at those numbers, what more could anyone want out of quarterback, and if he can get another shot, then give it to him.

It’s exciting that Georgia can have Bennett back for next season. He is an incredible leader, and with a handful of guys hitting the transfer portal, including JT Daniels, having Bennett around to lead is beneficial.

While the Dawgs need to begin evolving the offense, they can start doing that with Bennett because he proved that it doesn’t matter what kind of pass it is. He can make it.

Now, in this offseason, it would be great to see him continue working on his craft and get some of these minor things fixed, but Dawg nation should be happy.

This announcement comes at the right time, especially after Jermaine Burton hits the transfer portal and Daniels. The last few days have seen more guys leave than stay, but having Bennett join Nolan Smith and the rest of those defenders coming back should tell the fan base this team is ready to take 2022 seriously.

There will, of course, be some fans who disagree with his decision, but who cares. We’re not in charge, we can’t change anything, and instead of worrying about it, it’s time we enjoy the ride.

Bennett is already a legend, now let’s add to the Mailman myth and story. Enjoy the ride, Dawg fans. He took us to the promise land one time and can do it again.

With him returning for 2022, the odds of Georgia repeating increased, and if anyone can make it happen, it’s the Mailman.
