Georgia football fans, it’s okay to enjoy the title a little longer

Georgia football is the 2021 national champions, and even though it’s still relatively new, some Dawg fans are out there worried and complaining about next season.

Of course, this is a small majority of the fan base, but it’s still important to say it’s okay to enjoy the win longer than a week and a half.

Dawg Nation should enjoy it 365 days, but we understand fans are curious about players leaving, returning, recruiting, transfer portals and everything in between.

It has been 41 years since the last title, so Dawg Nation doesn’t know how long to celebrate, but fans can enjoy the win and get ready for next season. We all want to know if there is a legitimate shot at another one next year, but at the same time, this one should marinate a long-long time.

Georgia football fans need to relax and enjoy this title until spring practice starts — at least.

The fan base took the celebrations nice and slow until starting quarterback Stetson Bennett announced his return. Then JT Daniels and Jermaine Burton put their names in the transfer portal, and it went downhill.

Georgia has a lot of talent at the quarterback and wide receiver positions, so even though these three players’ decisions don’t make everyone happy, it’s not detrimental to the program.

Bennett just won the Dawgs a national title, so if he wants to come back, he should, and Dawg fans should be happy about it. Yes, the offense still isn’t quite as explosive as Alabama, Ohio State, and other schools, but what that offense accomplished this past season needs some respect.

The Dawgs were incredible on both sides of the ball and fans fail to see it after 10 days because Bennett chose to come back and lead the Dawgs one more year. He may not be a Bryce Young or Joey Burrows, but he will enjoy his final year of eligibility because he should.

Georgia won one with him, and yes, it had a lot to do with the defense, but that isn’t the only reason they won. The defense scored points, but the offense did some damage as well.

Some fans won’t let the narrative that Bennett isn’t good enough to be the starter, and it’s starting to get to the players. Sedrick Van Pran tweeted about the fan base, which should tell everyone these players see what gets said and need to be nicer.

It’s one thing to be constructive about the team and debate, but some of the stuff said about Bennett draws the line. There is no reason anyone should disrespect a guy like some of these fans have.

One of the best things I saw was what Logan Booker, an Athens sports talk radio host, said on Twitter, and it’s what this fan base needs to do.

This tweet is why I chose to write this article. We need to leave the lunatics alone and enjoy this win.

It hasn’t even been a month since the Dawgs hoisted the trophy and this fan base is already at each others’ throats.

The Dawgs are winners for the next year, and we don’t know when the next one will come, so forget about the things we cannot control and trust the process.

It may be hard to trust the process and enjoy this win until spring ball, but we should all at least try. Also, let the Bennett haters talk to the black hole and ignore them. They clearly just want attention, and true Dawg fans don’t have to give it to them the time of day.
