Matthew Stafford channeling the Dawgs is clutch in NFL playoffs
Former Georgia football quarterback Matthew Stafford wasn’t ready for the LA Rams’ season to end, and he made the throw of his career to keep their championship hopes alive. He was channeling the same energy the Dawgs used to win their national championship with that throw.
The Rams send the defending Super Bowl champs Tampa Bay home packing after Stafford’s clutch throw set up a 30-yard field goal to win as time expired.
After that final drive performance, there is a new Matty Ice in the NFL, and the word “clutch” needs to be printed on the back of Cooper Kupp’s helmet as he was the one who had to catch that bomb.
Matthew Stafford represented Georgia football well as he came in clutch to send the Rams to the NFC Championship.
Stafford had to make both of those passes, and while both were solid, that last 44-yard pass to Kupp was absolute perfection. Everything about that play was clutch. Even with no timeouts left, Stafford knew what needed to happen, and the execution was right on point. Kupp deserves some credit because that pass was only for him, and he knew he had to catch it.
It looked grim for the Rams after Tom Brady and his Bucs came down the field twice to tie it up with 42 seconds left, but Stafford wasn’t going into overtime. He knew he had to make a big play.
He has had plenty of impressive throws during his 12 years in the league, but that 44-yarder was the one Stafford needed the most for his career.
Now he should know that he has what it takes to win it all, and while it’ll be difficult, as long as he keeps channeling the Dawgs’ clutch mentality, the football gods should bless LA.
Stafford completed 28-of-38 for 366 yards and two touchdowns on the night, and while that is impressive for this game, that pass will be the one fans will remember him for making.
If anyone deserves a shot at a Super Bowl and to beat Brady, who usually wins these kinds of games, it’s Stafford.
It’s incredible to see how much his game improved once he got to Los Angeles. Stafford proves that good things can happen when you give a talented quarterback like him some guys who can make big plays and a line to protect him.
He eliminates the one team without any NFL Dawgs, so now, no matter who makes the Super Bowl, there will be at least one Dawg on both teams.
Stafford needs to take this moment and realize it could be the one that helps him gain enough confidence to take the Rams all the way. He doesn’t want the Braves or Dawgs to be the only teams winning championships, and now the Rams have a solid shot.
