Georgia football veteran playmaker Kearis Jackson made it official on Tuesday as he announced he would be back for the 2022 season.

The rising senior coming back for one final season is what Georgia needed after getting the Jermaine Burton decision earlier this week.

Georgia needed a veteran playmaker, outside starting quarterback Stetson Bennett, to return, and now that Jackson is healthy, he will be that guy.

Jackson is also one of the key punt return guys for the Dawgs, so it’s a double positive.

Georgia received huge news that Kearis Jackson will return for his senior season.

While the rising senior got a reasonable amount of time on the field last season, Georgia had to limit him because of his injuries. Other wideouts stepped up in his role, but Jackson still showed up when his number got called.

Last season, Jackson recorded 16 catches for 194 yards and one touchdown. He averaged 12.12 a catch and one catch a game. Compare that to his sophomore season, where he led the Dawgs with 36 catches for 514 yards and three scores.

Even though Georgia didn’t miss his production because guys like Ladd McConkey and others were filling the role, having Jackson 100% in 2022 will give Bennett a weapon.

Jackson took over the punt return duties since he was limited to running routes on his knee. Jackson recorded 22 for 189 yards, averaging 8.59 a punt. That average put him in the top 25 nationally and ranks No. 4 in the SEC.

Georgia fans needed some good news after debating about whether or not they should be okay with Burton leaving or not. Jackson gives Georgia a guy who has good hands, and with Burton gone, he can take over that role.

Jackson can prove that this past season with the injury was a minor setback, and in 2022, the Dawgs can trust he will put up some numbers. He is an intelligent receiver who does an excellent job at creating separation, plus he has glue in his hands that help him hold onto the ball because those hands are great.

With Jackson returning, the Dawgs now have seven seniors or super seniors coming back for the 2022 season, so those who think it could be a down year for Georgia don’t realize how vital those seven guys will be to the success of this team.
