Georgia football put together one of the most memorable runs in 2021, where they broke schools records, ended droughts, and did things that haven’t happened since the 1980s.
The Dawgs went 14-1, with their one blemish occurring in Atlanta at the SEC Championship, where Alabama gave Georgia a reality check.
Those 14 victories broke the Georgia football record for most wins in a single season.
The 1980 team set the record at 12 when they won their title. Former head coach Mark Richt’s 2002 team broke the 12-win record by going 13-1, and head coach Kirby Smart’s 2017 group tied it when they went 13-2.
Since the 2021 season was the first time Georgia earned this many wins, why not rank them. All 14 wins count, even though some fans act like only ranked victories matter.
Georgia football earned 14 wins, so we ranked them based on importance.
We chose to rank the 14 wins instead of all 15 games because it’s something that hasn’t happened before 2021. While that SEC Championship loss was significant, Georgia redeemed itself by beating Alabama in the title game.
That loss to the Tide was just the wake-up call Georgia needed because it made the Dawgs’ defense work and prepare harder for the playoffs. They ended up with a massive chip on their shoulders after being on top for most of the season.
What Georgia did in 2021 is something Dawg and college football fans will remember for years to come. That historic defense was something everyone wanted to witness, and each week they demoralized another opponent. Then consider how much the offense overcame with injuries — to be as efficient and prosperous as they were, it was something not many expected to happen.
This team will be able to tell their children and grandchildren about their legacy and how they were the ones that won the first championship in 41 years, which set a precedent for what could be the start of the next great dynasty.
After going through all 14 games, looking at stats, where they were in the season, what kind of implications each matchup brought and how important it was to Georgia football’s overall success, here are how we would rank the 14 wins.
